Marlies on stage in panel discussion

On June 29th, the International Accounting Forum and Awards 2023 took place in London. The forum was filled with presentations and panel discussions on interesting topics such as leveling up digital transformation and building a resilient and conscious culture. Our colleague Marlies Vervoordeldonk attended the conference and was on stage in the final panel discussion. She discussed strategies to boost efficiency and grow business together with Francesca Lagerberg, CEO of Baker Tilly International, and Jim Bourke, Global Technology Advisory Services leader at HLB International. One of the questions was ‘What would you do if you could change one thing to improve the attractiveness of the accountancy profession?’ Marlies: “I would start rebuilding the image of the profession from scratch, making students aware of the social impact they have as business advisors. It is not only about numbers or processes. You support clients in long-term decision making for business continuity, which ultimately has an effect on the entire economy.”

Awards ceremony: two awards and a nomination

In the evening the awards ceremony took place. Marlies was nominated for the award Young Accountant of the Year 2023. Therefore, colleagues Marco Verhagen en Stefan Suy attended the awards ceremony as well. We enjoyed the dinner and ceremony together with PrimeGlobal staff and members. When the awards were announced, we were all very excited. PrimeGlobal won two awards: Assocation of the Year 2023 ánd Sustainable Initiative of the Year 2023. These awards were won for the third time in four years. Congratulations to the PrimeGlobal team and all its members! Marlies was one of four nominees in the category ‘Accountant of the Year 2023’. Sadly she did not win the award, but the nomination has been a recognition of the impact she made last year in the profession.

Experiences and words of the CEO

Steve Heathcote, CEO of PrimeGlobal: “We are fortunate to have Marlies in our association. Her engagement, energy, and commitment is a great inspiration. Awards, or no awards, Marlies is a PrimeGlobal rock star!”

Marlies: “I felt a little disappointed, but very quickly I became my happy self again. It was a fantastic evening! The support of my Joanknecht colleagues and PrimeGlobal fellows has been amazing, truly special. PrimeGlobal won two awards, I made new connections and showed the world the spirit of Joanknecht and PrimeGlobal. What more could I ask for? Maybe the award… hahaha. Next year? I’m going for it!” Check Marlies’ LinkedIn post to get a good impression of the evening.
